Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to everyone!

I taught my last classes in this year, last night, so will have a little free time till january 4th.

Looking forward to spending more time at my own practice. Going home to spent christmas with my sisters and father in the Netherlands, to connect with some good friends over there and am really looking forward to that!

I want to ask everybody to be aware that christmas van be a very difficult time for those who aren’t so happy with their lives at the moment. Be mindful about it and maybe do something nice for those who you deep down know need it, offer your company, or some friendly words…

Stay connected to your breath as much as possible through the holidays and remember who you really are!

Patthabi Jois

hi Everyone,

I’m sorry to pass on the message that Sri K Patthabi Jois, also known as Guruji, passed away on the morning of may 18th. He was almost 94.

Guruji was well known and loved by millions of yoga practioners, many went to study ashtanga yoga with him in Mysore (India). He was loved for his joyful presence, humour, his devotion to god, yoga and his family.

He will be missed..

With love, gratitude and deepest sympathy for his family…

Esther

A big thank you!!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the nice, wonderful, making me smile and get all grateful and happy,… comments!!!  I’m planning on writing everybody with a question a note back, but you’ll have to be patient a bit…

I’ve just been away for 2 weeks in beautiful Italy for another clarity course, 2 weeks of retreat into meditation and self discovering, and its been another wonderful experience. I feel blessed and well grounded for it. Appreciating life how it is fully, rather than getting stuck in how I would like things to be. Desires…. you can learn so much from them, and they keep you away from realising the reality is something beautiful …….

Some good new is that all the footage for the dvd is done, now the editing…. We’re on it, give us a little more time!

Keep up your yoga practice… Try and get some meditation in as well. Remember you need to be relaxed to be able to open up to the reality of the here and now, and that is were you will find true freedom, …

Be well,

Esther

Yoga in Greyton

Hi Everyone,

I just want to wish everyone a happy christmas. Here in south Africa it’s a complete different experience, I haven’t heard one christmas song up until today, and some of the people I got to know are doing their shoppings (all of them) today, christmas eve. No stress whatsoever beforehand. Isn’t that wonderful? Its so good to see things done in different ways, it keeps me flexible.

We are doing really well here, Bas and I both went through a few physical hiccups, change of scenes, the body suddenly realizing it can relax and work through some far away stored stresses, but we feel as new again.

In a little place called Greyton, when we went inland, I met a very good yoga teacher called Jonathan Blumberg. He managed to really catch my attention, very stern, very good, very confronting. He gave me a well needed kick in the ass. As a teacher how I do things and as a student.

Thank you Jonathan. I’m sitting in lotus now while I meditate, and I’m working on my alignment. I got lazy, or perhaps it’s my tendency to not push myself very hard, and stay within my comfort zone too easily anyway. Also Bas really took your advice to heart and begins to realise that he cannot abuse his body the way he has when he works, and not give anything back to it, for much longer. Also he is picking up yoga everyday now, focussing on his alignment and being good to himself. He needed to hear that from someone else than me!

Also I had my first kundalini yoga class with Prana, while we stayed in his Zen Den. If you’re ever in Greyton and want the experience of a sweat lodge, kundalini yoga, fantastic hospality and amazing food. The Zen Den is your place.

Anyway, I’m loving it, I feel at peace and in the flow of things and will keep you posted!

Esther

What a special little place Greyton was, it got us on track and in touch with ourselves and we are still enjoying the benefits.

Yoga in Cape town

Hi Everyone,

Just to keep you updated on me and my travels. Cape town is great!!! I love it. I love the people, the atmosphere, what it does with me. I feel at home on the markets, especially when I’m the only blond person around funny enough, I love the humor, and friendly nature of the people here… True, at night things change, and I know I shouldn’t walk the streets I love to walk during the daylight, but I can accept that. Stress management

Hi Everyone….

Just to let you know I’m still here, but I am a bit busy with preparing a seminar on stress management, that is on, coming Thursday. It’s always good to do these things, it reminds me again of how important certain things are in life! Especially relaxation….. what are you all doing for yourself to stay healthy and relaxed? what am I doing on a regular basis to maintain health?

We all know the things we ought to be doing, but are we..? and if we do, are we doing them for longer than 3 days?

Are we as aware of the things we do want, as we are of the things we don’t want. This is very important, since the strongest “want” comes true. Meaning that, if what we want to avoid is stronger, than wanting something positive, we get the thing we want to avoid!! That sucks, but it is true, so it’s important to know what lives inside your mind! Do you?

Try this a couple times a day

Ask yourself :

“What am I doing now?” both internally as externally and answer the question – externally you can be walking, internally worrying about work

“Is there anything I really want at this moment?” -I want to enjoy the walk

“Is there anything I really want to avoid this moment?” – I want to avoid being unprepared tomorrow

So are you being present in the moment, enjoying your walk? NO! not at all and it’s not relaxing me either this way!

Being aware of this can draw you back in the moment and than you can begin to enjoy the walk! Try it and I would love some feedback on this.
