Esther’s Kitchen
Hi Everyone,
As a result of some requests I’ve decided to let you have a look in my kitchen :) Eating healthy does not always come natural and I know it can be helpful to get some ideas so I hope this gives you some.. It is so important what you eat, also from a yoga perspective. You probably all know the phrase “you are what you eat” That is a bit much for me, you’re much more than just what you eat, but if want to be healthy and energetic physically you want to look at eating healthy. A lot of physical problems start from bad diet and some can be fixed with help of a healthy diet. So have an honest look and start making some changes!
Enjoy..

Comment by vala Feb 15, 10, 4:18 pmThank you for this Esther! I wish I had more access to healthy food, but I make the most of what is available. I love your idea of making “green” juices! All of the veggie juices I have made have turned out rather disgusting. Do you have a favorite recipe that you are willing to share? Thank you!

Comment by jitmpatel@hotmail.com Feb 17, 10, 4:08 amHi Esther,
Comment by Anastasiya Feb 17, 10, 11:39 pmthank you for this video. I am not trying to lose weight and I am a fan of healthy eating myself. Most of the things that you have showed in your kitchen can also be found in my kitchen. Vegetables and fruits are my all-time favorites, they give me so much energy without making me feel tired or bloated. And Miso Soup -yum-yum-yum – I can’t live without it :-) I am not a big fan of milk but I add it occasionally to my cereal (I use skim milk, so it’s more like white water :-) without any taste) but your suggestion of using almond milk is great. I’ll definitely try it.
I must admit that I love whole grain pasta and whole-grain bread. I can’t imagine my pantry without some spaghetti and a loaf of bread for a quick toast. I know that there is a lot of debate about whether you need to eat pasta and grains in general (especially when you are trying to lose weight) or not. I think that in moderation they are great sources of nutrients and energy.
Thank you again for this video, it was very informative and motivational.

Hi Esther!
I am a complete beginner here.
I really love your website, and the way you put yoga practice in everyday life.
About an healthy diet: I spent a lot of years trying to find out which is the best for me, going through so many informations (almost all very contaddictory and with no scientific background) and trying so many things…
I found out some intolerances I have that suddenly came out after a period of stress… and I also found out the weaknesses of my body and my digestive system.
For me an healthy diet is like my grandma says: a little bit of everything (excluding the food I am intolerant to!)
In my opinion the best thing is try to understand your body and how it responds to what you eat: a kind of eat-consciousness.
Comment by Manola Feb 24, 10, 5:47 amAlso respect your genetic background (if your mother cannot eat dairy maybe you can have some problems as well), your homecountry/area tradition (if you are not used to a food probably it is possible to have some problems with it for your body).
…and yes, eat less that you would like to…
Wonderful video. I drink juices at least two times a day and lots of water. I recommend to drink two glasses of warm water first thing in the morning. It flashes everything you had previous day and energizes the system. Keep drinking water throughout the day. I carry my reusable water bottle and sometimes I like to add lemon and ginger juice to my water.
Comment by Yulia Feb 24, 10, 6:29 amHello Esther, I am really happy that I have found your yoga classes. I am sure I will visit often. I was looking for some advise for beginners as I am new to yoga and I was afraid I could do many postures incorrectly using books only. I will definitely start practicing with you:) I am also glad that you have included your kitchen and diet part. I am trying to eat halthy and it good to find some good tips. Particuraly about juices. My last attemp was to make juice from cabbage (don’t try it at home, the smell is horrible, even more than the taste!) If you have some favourite veg. juices it would be great if you shared the recipes. Sorry for any mistakes but english is my second language. Thank you very much for giving us your time.

Comment by Silja Mar 05, 10, 9:20 pmAfter watching your kitchen-video I got my juicer out again. (I have not used it in a while since I find it is quite a job to clean it after use.)
Now all these have-eaten fruit that my small kids leave lying around my kitchen have a place to go – other than the trash! The kids LOVE what the scarily noisy juicer spits out so much that they fight over it.
I have a question about you mentioning that you don’t drink milk and eat little bread. Why is that? Is just a matter of personal taste or general nutritional advice?
I would like to ad the umpteenth request for recipes!
Thank you so much for sharing and the inspiration!!!
Hi Silja,
Comment by Esther Mar 06, 10, 9:50 amMy body does not react well to wheat, (bloated feeling and tiredness) . So when I do eat bread it is spelt bread. Milk I have never liked, even as a child I wouldn’t drink it. Also if you look at nature, only infants, babies drink milk, when they grow up they stop! A lot of people are sensitive to milk products without knowing (not everybody!), sinus troubles, congestions and colds, over sensitivity to lactose. So I do believe drinking a lot of milk as an adult is not great. But again, there are no rules, different body types require different things! Keeping a diary everyday writing down what you’ve eaten and how you feel after it will tell you a lot about what suits your body and what not. Glad to hear the juicer is back out! when I bought a juicer the thing I looked at was how easy is it to clean! There are juicers out there that you clean in 3 min! Makes a huge difference whether you use it or not. Recipes are on the way :)
Esther
Esther,
I hope you won’t mind sharing the brand of juicer you are using in this video. We are struggling to find an easy-to-clean juicer to use for every day…it is obvious yours gets used frequently (hooray!) so please share!
Also, thank you for showing us your kitchen and how a daily routine works for your home – it is our family’s dream to be 100% whole foods and to do less wheat/dairy/treats. I’m glad you said it straight-up — I won’t die if I don’t eat whole wheat bread every day. I needed to hear that!
Comment by Kathryn Mar 15, 10, 7:29 amHi Esther,
Thanks for sharing your kitchen… and thanks for the wonderful yoga videos too!
I love to practice on weekends, when there is no classes in my centre :)
I would like to share something with you also – a small “space” where I post good thoughts every day! Hope you enjoy!
