Lotus Pose or padmasana
Hi Everyone,
In this video I show you how to approach the lotus pose / padmasana. The yoga pose is great to center your mind and to sit in when you meditate. Especially because when you sit in it, you sit naturally with a straight spine. Be sure to warm up the hips before.

Thank you Esther, the Lotus pose was quite a challenge for me. I had to practise it for two years until I was able to do it. The way you prepare the hips in the beginning of this video is very nice. I love to do it this way, thank you!
I have one question: When I sit in Lotus, one of my knees and also partly the thigh does not really rest on the floor. It remains lifted a little. Is this the way it has to be or will that change with time?
Thanks, Roman

Thank you for your questions! I’m glad you enjoy the video’s and website.
There is no secret to Wide legged forward bend D and everyone will come across a pose that they cannot do fully, maybe this is yours!
A few tips however, first of all keeping a straight back is really important, if you are strongly rounding your back (lower or upper back) going down you loose length. (you should than go less far down) Make sure you’re Tilting the hips properly so that you lower back stays flat, check in a mirror to be sure, it can be difficult to feel sometimes!
And maybe you just have incredible long legs and a short body… (thats what my female students like to hear)!
Also different muscles need to lengthen in this pose compared to uttanasana, because the legs are wide.
About lotus pose.

And maybe you’ve reached the limit bone structure wise, we can only see in time. However its fantastic you managed to get that far already, well done staying at it and to be disciplined enough. You can decide to support your “hovering leg” see how it feels,
warm regards
