Prenatal Yoga Video (part 2) – Standing Sequence
Hi Everyone,
The title says it all, this is yoga you can do when pregnant, really any stage, since Jess teaching you is 9 months. When you are pregnant, It is so good to do some sort of exercise to keep you fit and healthy. Be mindful though and follow your instincts, don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right or is uncomfortable.
The poses and some variations of them that Jess demonstrates here are:
- mountain pose / tadasana
- triangle pose / utthita trikonasana
- warrior II pose / virabhadrasana II
- standing forward bend / uttanasana
- the dancer / natarajasana
- corpse pose / savasana
I hope Jess is able to inspire you to keep fit and healthy,
Esther

Hi Esther/Jess,
Having a video on the web of this sort makes it so much easier to follow. Specially when you see a preganant woman doing it , it is so much more convincing.

Hi Esther,
I love your prenatal yoga video (and all your other videos as well), I was curious though if there are any key yoga poses that would help with after the baby is born and getting back into your pre-pregnancy shape.
Thanks,

Dear Esther,
Comment by Claudia May 09, 10, 8:28 pmI have a question about yoga in the first trimester. Is it OK to do poses like Cobra, hal-asana (plow) and candle pose? Which poses are to be avoided in general throughout the pregnancy? What about Cobra in Sun Salutation, should I skip that one? Love to hear from you.
Thanks, Claudia
Hello Claudia,
Comment by Esther May 10, 10, 6:13 pmYoga during pregnancy is great. Different yoga systems recommend doing different things. Best thing is to be very mindful during your practice and to keep checking in if it feels good what you are doing. If not, certainly stop! During the first trimester , especially if you have been doing cobra poses before, it is fine, keep it small and as long as it feels right.
With regards to inversions, I would be careful, you want to keep the energy around the uterus. At the same time, there are yogis who keep doing sarvangasana (candle pose) the whole pregnancy through. It is part of their daily practice and they know their body’s well and are able to listen to the signals. Legs up against the wall can be a lovely variation. Basically be mindful about that one pose can feel great one day and totally wrong the next. Listen to the signals. Closed deep twists are better to avoid, very strong backbends and very strong abdominal work is to be avoided. A good rule is to stick to what your body is used to, and not to experiment during pregnancy.
Enjoy and congratulations!
