Wake Up Yoga
Hi everyone,
Here a routine to do first thing when you get up. It makes a big difference to your day if you stretch first thing. It balances you, and its obviously very good for your health. I really need to do it straight when I get out of bed, if I don’t I notice I let it slip. I might than do my practice later in the day, but it really isn’t the same as doing something first thing in the morning. Try it out for a couple a days in a row and you will notice the difference.
The poses I practice in this sequence are:
half moon stretch / ardha chandrasana
cat pose / marjayasana
cow pose / bitilasana
cobra / bhujangasana
activating the energy in the lower and upper body
activating the kidneys through standing twists

Comment by Alfonso Gaytan Mar 04, 09, 7:20 pmI ‘discovered’ that the left side of my body is so different to the right,
to this I atribute my knee pain
can I ever correct this?
is this normal?
I would really appreciate any advice you can give
Hi Alfonso,
Comment by Esther Mar 09, 09, 8:53 amYes it is normal that one side of your body is different from the other side. That is what yoga is trying to do, to bring balance, to the 2 sides of the body amongst other things. So yes, there is a good chance that you will bring the balance back in your body if you keep practicing. Its is already a big step that you’ve figured it out where the knee pain most likely comes from. It would be a good idea to find a knowledgeable yoga teacher life that can help you figure out, specific exercises to do , to work on your specific imbalance. To start hold the poses on the side that is more stiff and stuck longer than on the open side, that side obviously needs more work.
I wish you all the best and balance….
Be well,
Esther

Hi Esther,
Thank you for this great sequence! Sometimes I feel that I don’t have time (first thing in the morning) for a worthwhile yoga practice, but this sequence proves that I don’t necessarily need to practice for a full hour or more to feel more energized, and more open to the day ahead. :)
I love your website! Your instructions are clear and meaningful, and you convey such a lovely, positive energy to your students! The videos, the yoga dictionary, and the step-by-step instruction pages have all been very helpful!
Thank you so much!
Peace,

Dear Esther,
Your style of teaching is really great, and I find the routines very worthwhile. And especially love this morning routine – I look forward to doing it every morning. :)

this is really usefull…had fun doing it but is it true that yoga makes you taller???
Comment by alvarez Mar 07, 10, 10:33 pmYoga improves your posture, so you stand straighter and as such you could look a little taller..

Comment by Esther Apr 30, 10, 11:07 pmDear Esther,
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I’ve been practicing yoga for several years now, and am currently forced to practice at home using videos as I live in a town where the nearest classes are too far away. Your videos are some of my favorites! I love your yoga flows and your calm and cheerful approach to teaching. Thank you.
Be well,
