Yoga poses – how to get into the splits
Hi everyone,
Here some preparatory poses to find your way into practicing the splits, in sanskrit called hanumanasana pose.
It is good to build up some heat in your body by doing at least 3-5 rounds of your favorite sun salutation first. Than continue with the sequence in this video. Also the sequence in this video you can repeat twice to really open your hips enough for the splits.
The poses I use to prepare the body are:
Lunges
half splits
intense side stretch / parvottanasana
triangle pose / utthita trikonanasana
splits / hanumanasana pose

Great site, great teaching! I practice yoga a couple of years in a very simple level (stil beginner) because of back problems and it helps me a lot. Do you have anything to help pelvic pain (bekken instabiliteit)? This is another problem that I couldn’t fix yet with another therapies, despite I’m trying everything I can.

My name is Jonelle, and I always watch your videos. You really got me into yoga! But I can never do splits,forward folds, or downward dog. How can I get more flexible? oh and I cant see this video…did you delete it?

HI, I like your site, but I have a question. How many times you have to practice this exercise before You can do it? I want really to can do the split.

I will try other videos as well! My swollen legs from all the sitting in the office definitely need some shoulderstand :))))

I discovered your website at the beginninbg of this week and I love it! I have always been skeptical about yoga (for no real reason might I add) but after trying one of your videos, I was hooked. So, thank you!
I was wondering if you have considered putting out another video on the splits that is for splits with the legs out to the left and right sides, instead of the legs to the front and back? If not, do you have any recommendations for stretches that would help me learn how to do the splits that way?
